Looking for trouble Axle stands Wings The wings collect dirt and moisture thrown up by wheels. Oil The underside becomes coated with road grease which harbours moisture. Box sections Box sections of a car's structure have drain holes which must be kept clear. Sealant Look for scrapes, cracks and lifting sections in underbody sealant.

Trouble spots are easier to check with the wheels off and the car on axle stands.
